On Friday, Mitchell Adkins, a former student of Kentucky’s Transylvania University, entered Jazzman’s Café armed with a machete and various other knives. His objective? To kill Democrats. The attack has left one woman, a student at the University, in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Tristan Reynolds, a witness, Adkins slammed his machete on a table, claiming “the day of reckoning has come!” Reynolds described the attacker’s method:
“He asked somebody what their political affiliation was, they said ‘Republican’ and the guy said ‘you are safe.’”
Another witness described the horrific scene, reiterating what Reynolds described:
“He asked the first girl if she was a Democrat or a Republican, she said Republican, (and) he said okay, then asked some other girl. By that time, some of my friends were running out and yelling for us to leave, and I tried to stay behind to see if — I mean I didn’t know what to do, I wanted to help, but I knew I should get out of there.”
Of course, one woman must have said “no” to him, and she is now recovering from the attack.
During the attack, Marcia Figgs, a barista at the cafe “picked up a chair to go after the 230-pound man wielding a hatchet.” In a statement, University President Carey praised her, echoing her words:
“These students are out babies. Nobody is going to hurt them without a fight.”
So far, Trump has not commented on the terrorist attack.
